Growing up in an abusive household is a fucking trip dude……If you’ve never had someone angrily wash a dish at you or fold a sock in your direction then how are you gonna understand why I get nervous when you quietly do the laundry, or why I ask “are you mad at me?” when you set the bag of groceries down too hard? It’s a totally different way of living and it impacts you long after you’ve left the situation.

I did the being edgy and self-deprecating thing, it gets old. I wanna be soft and lovely and easily impressed. I wanna appreciate all the little things that make me happy the same way I’ve dwelled on every single thing that upsets me.
I have a working theory that I hope ends up being true:
The 2010s were a decade of cynicism, gritty reboots, and the slow cusp of discovering the importance of mental health but not really being able to cope with it yet and just wallowing in it.
My hope is that the 2020s will be a decade where everyone collectively decides they’re sick of all that stuff and in their defiance it becomes decade of bright colors and emotional honesty.
a note on people who always say “i don’t mind” whenever you ask where they want to eat/what they want to watch/etc:
usually this is because they’ve been punished in the past for voicing their opinions, not because they’re out to annoy you specifically. depending on how much flack they used to receive, it can be very stressful for them if you try and force them to offer up an idea.
a lot of my friends who do this appreciate me giving out like… three options. pick three different things that you will be happy to do any of and ask which of those three options they’d prefer. it removes the fear of “what if they don’t like my suggestion” without erasing their option to chose and have preferences so, you know, good all around
